Default Trinidad Fishing

Arrived in Trinidad Tuesday afternoon to sunny skies and no wind with hopes of landing a big fish or two befor the season ends here this weekend. Was really hoping for the albies to show but the SST's are looking like its a 60 mile run and no one here goes out that far. The big trip here is a run to "The Rock" Redding Rock off Patricks Point State Park, some 20 miles to the north.

We got up early to leave the dock at 7a.m.
Trust me, this is early by the fishing standards here. . . .

Made the run in slightly bumpy seas with my brother Capt. Ron, my dad and family friend Merrill to go fish "The Rock"

We set up on our drift and was using a shrimp fly rig with a 8 oz. lead head/hammer bait and started hitting some nice lings. There were also some decent rock fish hitting, we got 1 vermillion but the rest were blacks and some blues. Finished fishing the rock around 2 and set up the down riggers to troll back for salmon. After trolling about an hour, we decided to make a quicker run back inside and re-set the lines near redwood creek. After setting back up we started getting hits and landed 2 silvers (released) right away. for some reason the next 3 fish didn't stick. We ended up landing 2 kings and called it a day about 3:45 and headed for the barn.

All in all a good day on the water.

Here's my brother Capt. Ron and myself:

And here is me, my dad and Merrill:

Today the wind was blowing hard and the swells were about 10 seconds apart. The guy running the water taxi told us they were waiting for 2 boats to come back in then they were closing the pier for the day.

We hope tomorrow is better

Hey Bro,

Just got back from having a couple beers with Steve, he said to tell you hi and you need to get your butt back up here!!!

We're going to try to go out around 9 tomorrow and fish around wedding rock.

Wish you were here helping us slay some.

There was a couple indians that came in today and was selling whole salmon for 2.00 a pound and 8-10 lb steelhead for $10.00 each. I didn't buy any but it looked tempting. . . .

Right on!
Tell Steve Hi for me. Wish I was pulling on some up there myself.
Jeri checked on some airfares up to Arcada by a little more than I want to pay right now. Hope you kill'em today too.

Tough day on the water, it was windy with 8-10 ft. swells. We still managed to get 3 lings and 26 snapper. I'll have to get the picture of the day's catch from Capt. Ron, I left my camera on the boat. . . .

C-Ya guys when I get back!!

Thanks Roger,

We're going to give it a go tomorrow morning and see what happens. I just watched the news and there is a high pressure area off the coast and its supposed to send winds down from the north with possible showers. My dad and brother are die hards and if there is a chance, we will be out there.

Besides, I need to get my camera off the boat anyway

Sounds good to me. We'll need to get another boat to go up there though.

There are a few charter operations I would recommend.

The 36' Jumpin' Jack
http://members.cox.net/crab/home.html

Also the Shanendoah, I couldn't find a website for them.

And the Toni Rae
http://www.patrickspointcharters.com/

Here's a link to our place.

I know I'll be going back up next July. Earlier if it looks like they're going to shut down the salmon season.

Would be great to have you all come up. The room rates are reasonable and there is a restaurant on the property.
