Default New Years Eve Calico hunt

12/31/06 With rumors of deep backside YT Nate, John Hughes and myself left Davies at 5:30 in the dark on Nates boat "Salty" each armed with Wong spearguns (Nate with his new 50"rear plus). We arrived at the backside at greylight hoping for some surface activity. We searched for quite a while to no avail. We decided to initiate plan B, which was a New Years Eve Calico hunt. Working from the West End as far in as the Quarry we had vis from 15-20ft and 58 degree water. Flat calm water,no wind and back at the dock by 2:00 in time for Panko fried Calico tacos. Awsom day on the water with a fantastic crew.

Why is it that John Hughes and MikeLB never want to get in any of the pics? Had a great time, spending several hours in the water was a welcome treat that I really missed. and last day to get a little more milage out of the fishing license. The new Daryl Wong is hands down the smoothest most accurate gun I have ever fired.

P.S. Chris turn the pictures!

I can't get the second one rotated, but check out the ab shell I found. It was in 30ft and I could see it shine from the surface!

Ok, now everythings perfect, except the two ugly S.O.B.'s in the pics! That ab shell was a great find. I hope the population comes back strong. I would love to take kids on a local ab dive one day.

Nice going on the Calico's!

Good to hear the new gun works good for you.

The ride to and from the island was amazing to say the least. The swell model did not look so good, but it was a FLAT and windess day. Roger, I really had hoped to get or even see a YT oh well. Another spero got into a school of WSB on the back side where the YT were late in the afternoon and took one.

Okay Roger, what's with the Jr.? I've shot a few yellowtail, pulled some bugs, climbed on the rocks.
