FRESHWATER REPORT

Lake Casitas: The bass are still biting while crappie and redear perch are being caught, according to Randy King of the Casitas Boat Rental Office.

Ventura's Rick Miller caught an 11-pound and 5-pound bass with plastic worms.

Valencia's Chris Burroughs caught the biggest bass at 11 pounds using stocker trout. Ron Schoonover of San Dimas caught a 9-pound bass on live shad. Tim Emerson caught five bass, the largest weighing 5 pounds. Emerson caught 10 crappie, the largest 2 pounds on shad.

Oak View's Matthew Wheatley caught 15 redear perch on nightcrawlers averaging 1 pounds and an 8-pound bass on shad.

Ojai's Randy Westbury caught 14 bass surface fishing using rapalas and released all his fish weighing 5 pounds each.

Lake hours: 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Lake Piru: Simi Valley's Norman Blair caught 20 crappie using red and white jigs. Norman's total was 10 pounds.

Shane Weaver of Canyon Country caught a 5-pound bass with a nightcrawler at the point.

Ed Murphy, marina manager, said anglers are catching five or six crappie then moving on to another spot and catching more.

The trout are hitting on four-color kastmasters, needlefish and rapalas.

Lake hours: 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Lake Cachuma: Trout fishing is productive by trolling with needlefish or nightcrawlers with flashers. Trout are being caught from zero to 20 feet.

Bass are being caught near the shore. A few redear perch and crappie are being caught.

Lake hours: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Castaic Lake: Striper action is picking up by the dam and west ramp. The stripers are being caught in the 3- to 7-pound range. Largemouth bass are being caught up to 3 pounds.

A trout plant in the lagoon has resulted in anglers scoring limits on power bait.

Lake hours: 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
